Gregory Blackwell

July 19, 1959 — February 1, 2020

Gregory Allen Blackwell “Greg” born July 19, 1960 said his final goodbye February 1, 2020 at age 59 in his home surrounded by his family.

Anyone else fighting stage 4 cancer would have gone quietly into the night, but Greg was laying comfortably in his living room, reminiscing the good times over a few beers with his closest family and friends. The way he died is just like he lived: he wrote his own rules, he fought authority and he paved his own way. And if you said he couldn’t do it; he would make sure he proved you wrong while saying “I’m not trying to be mean, but I knew I could do it.”

He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life, heart of gold and a firm understanding of what was important — the simplicity of living a life with those you love.Greg enjoyed motocross in his younger years, coaching his girls’ softball teams, a well-made fire that would run everyone else out of the living room because it was so hot, mashed potatoes and enjoying a few drinks rocking next to his wife on the front porch. His regrets were few but include jumping into the neighbor’s pool in a pair of dry rotted swim trunks that didn’t come out of the pool with him or forgetting to put the truck in park at the top of the driveway.

Of all the people he touched, his most proud achievement in life was marrying his wife Monica who supported him for 36 years, in all his glory during his heyday, and lovingly supported him physically during their last days together. He is survived by his wife Monica Renee Blackwell (Canton, GA) Daughter, Cheryl Bisso (Adam) (Jasper, GA), Daughter Emily Blackwell (Todd Richards) (Canton, GA), Grandaughter Haryln Bisso, His Mother and Father, Judy and Neil Blackwell (Marietta GA), His brother Mark Blackwell (Laura Muddiman) (Cumming, GA),  His in-laws, Myrlene and Jurgen Jack (Elgin, TX), Sister and Brother In-law Vicki and Kevin Hicks (Elgin, TX) Nephew Raymond Blackwell (and family)(Houston, TX), Niece Hannah Hutchinson (Brooks)(Jasper, GA).
