Elizabeth Morrell

July 15, 1921 — May 29, 2020

Elizabeth (Betty) Morrell passed quietly in her sleep on May 29, 2020 in Canton, Georgia.  She was born on July 15, 1921 in Jersey City, NJ to Ernest and Frederika Hildebrand.

Betty met her husband, Bob, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in West New York, NJ.  They married on March 24, 1946 and resided in Waldwick, NJ for 40 years, where they raised four children.  In 1990 they retired to Manchester, NJ and lived there for 26 years.  They were active in their church, enjoyed leisurely drives, traveling and annual cruises to Bermuda.  Betty loved to talk and could easily strike-up a conversation with anyone.  She was a charming person who made friends easily.  Our mother was blessed with a long healthy life, loving family and good friends.

Betty spent her childhood in Catskill, NY.  Then in 1935 the family moved to West New York, NJ.  She was a 1939 graduate of Memorial High School and worked for 7 years at New York Life in Manhattan as a policy underwriter, leaving that job to start her family.  Betty later returned to work as a salesclerk spending 21 years at Gimbel’s in Paramus.

Betty is predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Bob Morrell, her parents and two brothers, Ernie and Freddy Hildebrand.  She is survived by two daughters and two sons – Sindra and Scott Stevens of Iowa, Joan Morrell and her companion Arthur Korn of Georgia, Edward of Colorado and Peter and Sandy Morrell of Oregon.  Plus, seven grandchildren, thirteen mischievous great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Pat Hildebrand, two nephews and a niece.

A private graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery.  Our mother will be sadly missed and forever loved.  At a later date family and friends will come together to celebrate her life.  Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to Waldwick Methodist Church, 25 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick, NJ 07463.
